January: Phone Contacts

January was planned to be a busy month, with lots of travel and not a lot of time to clean something physical. I do always have my phone with me, so it seemed like a good idea to start there. I can clean out a letter while sitting in an airport, right? I started with 567 contacts and took a quick sweep while binge watching Friends on Netflix, easily eliminating 101 contacts.

Some ground rules on how people were eliminated:
  • Last name in the contact is how I met you (fraternity letters, places, etc). Goodbye Tex SAE, Colin Trivia (I remember you - you were really cute) and Scott Vegas Iowa Fan...
  • I have no clue who you are. Nancy M? Not the Nancy M I'm related to, so goodbye
  • We worked together 8+ years ago and haven't spoken since. Former camp directors, daughters of people I worked with at an internship who were looking at OSU, see ya never.
  • We ever so briefly dated and haven't had any contact since. Sorry I'm not sorry. (Not naming names here - that'd be mean).
  • I unfriended you on Facebook (or intend to when I get to that in one of the next 11 months).
  • Former landlord or tenant before/after me

Start:

After a quick 20 minute sweep:

I no longer have any contacts starting with I, X and Z:

Finish. I actually added a few contacts during January, ended the month down a net 236 contacts. (deleted 41.6% - of course I did the math).
