Opening scene: Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi. Both will go on to wear wear both Yankees and Indians uniforms. I don't really like baseball, yet I know this.
Screenplay co-written by Aaron Sorkin? I already like it - I want him to write the dialogue for my life.
I did not find myself emotionally attached to any characters, simply rooting for the team as a whole. This is interesting, since the philosophy is about getting runs to win games, not about big name players. Well played, film makers.
- What made me choose this movie?
- Math and sports combined? Sign me up. (And, I listened to the book in my car.)
- Describe this movie in one word. JUST ONE.
- Ballsy (see what I did there?) THIS IS THE HARDEST QUESTION.
- Would I recommend it to a friend (or talk ad nauseum with my friends about it)?
- Recommend? Not for everyone, but definitely great. I can tell you certain people I know would be bored to tears by it, but I give it my stamp of approval.
- Talk ad nauseum? Maybe with my brothers - or with my girl friends about how I think the actor that played young Billy is much more attractive than Brad Pitt.
- Did I look anyone or anything up from the movie on IMDB or Wikipedia?
- I did look up a few of the players, but I knew a lot more than I thought I would.
- If I was trapped on a desert island, which character from this movie would I want to be trapped with and why?
- Peter. He'd definitely observe, analyze and calculate a way to get us off the island.
- Did this movie provoke any outward emotional reactions? Crying, laughing out loud, throwing crap across the room, etc./et al. (Warning - I cry A LOT.)
- I laughed when Billy cracked a joke, I teared up when Scott Hatteberg got his offer, I yelled when things went wrong. Quite the range of emotion.
- Would I stop to watch this movie at any point during a showing on TBS?
- Only during the happy parts. Even though I try not to get emotionally invested in sports, the cinematic twist with the ominous music (or thrilling silence) gets me.
- Would I buy it on sale at Target for $5 or less (or even splurge on it full price)?
- Probably not - baseball's not my thing.
