Week 10 - Footloose (2011 Version)

It seemed like Kenny Wormald kept slipping in and out of his Boston accent, but he's actually from Boston, so maybe it's real? And the only people I know from Boston have either no accents (Ashley) or the strongest one I've ever heard in real life (Mark, obv)? They should have just kept Ren from the Midwest where we don't have accents...
It goes without saying, but solid dancing in this movie.
I honestly didn't know what year it took place in until Ren pulled out an iPod around 10 minutes in.
I had to stop in the middle and watch the original angry dance scene. While this one is more realistic, I think I prefer the 1984 version where Kevin Bacon doesn't fall several times...
  • What made me choose this movie?
    • I blame Netflix. I have no idea what made me watch this movie while eating dinner on a Monday evening, but I'm so glad it happened.
  • Describe this movie in one word. JUST ONE.
    • Exceeds. As in "exceeds expectations."
  • Would I recommend it to a friend (or talk ad nauseum with my friends about it)?
    • Recommend?  To my friends who like terrible movies (Ashleigh, Chrissy, Naomi, Leigh).
    • Talk ad nauseum? Only with those lovely ladies.
  • Did I look anyone or anything up from the movie on IMDB or Wikipedia?
    • Yes, to see how close of a remake this was to the original. I can't remember the original shot by shot, but it feels pretty close (like THE ENTIRE WARDROBE and the music). And you're telling me the kid I thought was cute from The 4400 (remember that one, Matt?) plays the gross, abusive, older boyfriend?  I recognized his name in the opening credits, but wasn't sure who he played...wow...
  • If I was trapped on a desert island, which character from this movie would I want to be trapped with and why?
    • Ren, because who doesn't like angry dancing? I think it would be a healthy way to work out our inevitable issues (and he's a great guy aaaaand kind of attractive...).
  • Did this movie provoke any outward emotional reactions? Crying, laughing out loud, throwing crap across the room, etc./et al. (Warning - I cry A LOT.)
    • I couldn't stop smiling when Miles Teller was dancing with the little girls to "Let's Hear it for the Boys" (I hit rewind and watched it again - and when he learned to tap his toes from side to side, I had a flashback to barre3 with Noah during Katie's last F&F class) and I almost cheered when Uncy Wes defended Ren to the rev.
  • Would I stop to watch this movie at any point during a showing on TBS?
    • Possibly. Okay, probably.
  • Would I buy it on sale at Target for $5 or less (or even splurge on it full price)?
    • No.
