After much deliberation, 2 trips to the store, numerous conversations with people who know a whole lot about cameras and heart palpitations when clicking "checkout," I made the big purchase on 7/20/14. It was delivered on 7/24/14, I practiced messing with settings on 8/16/14, and I would say I actually learned how to use it while on vacation around 10/8/14. It took beautiful pictures on the trip - now the hard parts: editing 1,500 pictures and finding occasions to continue to use the camera.
