True confession: I saw the movie before re-reading the book for Monday night's book club.
- What made me choose this movie?
- One of the greatest novels of all time, reading it for book club and Jess called asking if I wanted to go. I rarely turn down a trip to the movies!
- Describe this movie in one word. JUST ONE.
- Grand.
- Would I recommend it to a friend (or talk ad nauseum with my friends about it)?
- Recommend? Yes.
- Talk ad nauseum? Maybe, if part of book club turns into a book vs. movie conversation.
- Did I look anyone or anything up from the movie on IMDB or Wikipedia?
- I looked up the actor who played Tom. He has been in a lot of things, none of which I have seen. I also looked up the actor who played Meyer Wolfsheim to see where he is from (India, in case you were curious).
- If I was trapped on a desert island, which character from this movie would I want to be trapped with and why?
- Nick is the only honest one with a decent head on his shoulders. But Gatsby could bootleg booze and make anything happen. Tough decision...
- Did this movie provoke any outward emotional reactions? Crying, laughing out loud, throwing crap across the room, etc./et al. (Warning - I cry A LOT.)
- There was a gun shot that made me JUMP. I knew it was coming, but the sound was super loud in the theater!
- Would I stop to watch this movie at any point during a showing on TBS?
- Possibly, but the story is so sad.
- Would I buy it on sale at Target for $5 or less (or even splurge on it full price)?
- No.
