The opening scene of the film points out that Mickey Cohen is a Jew. I'd have to say, he's probably not the optimal Jew: eats lobster, named his son Mickey Jr. and a pretty bad guy.
It is weird seeing chase scenes with old cars and old school grenades.
I was very distracted during the one of the main conflict scenes. It takes place in Chinatown and I just kept thinking "I saw those statues in actual China! Those look like adult versions of the outfits I got my nieces in actual China! Those sound like the fireworks I heard in China!"
Leslie and I witnessed people leaving a 4:20 Wednesday afternoon showing of Anna Karenina - and the patrons are exactly who we expected them to be.
- What made me choose this movie?
- On Monday, Jillian said she had passes to a sneak peek (the movie doesn't come out until Friday). So, Leslie, Katelynn and I had a roommate double date! (And each ended up driving separately...)
- Describe this movie in one word. JUST ONE.
- Bullet-ridden (do hyphenated words count as one?)
- Would I recommend it to a friend (or talk ad nauseum with my friends about it)?
- Recommend? Yes, kind of funny, extremely bloody and entertaining.
- Talk ad nauseum? No, but the word nauseum does ring a bell from several of the gruesome deaths. Not sure when I'll be able to eat a hamburger again...
- Did I look anyone or anything up from the movie on IMDB or Wikipedia?
- Since Mickey Cohen was real, yes. I looked him up. And, I also had to look up some of the characters' names for this post.
- If I was trapped on a desert island, which character from this movie would I want to be trapped with and why?
- Connie, she had a good head on her shoulders and seemed like someone I could be friends with. Or Coleman - I think his knife skills would be helpful and he seems like a good guy. (You thought I was going to say Ryan Gosling's character, didn't you? While extremely attractive, he is very wishy-washy and has a timid voice that would drive me nuts. But, still, oh so pretty...)
- Did this movie provoke any outward emotional reactions? Crying, laughing out loud, throwing crap across the room, etc./et al. (Warning - I cry A LOT.)
- I laughed, gasped and watched several scenes through my fingers (sometimes because I knew something bad was going to happen, but not sure why. And other times because I knew EXACTLY what was going to happen and was aggravated that the characters couldn't see it, too.)
- Would I stop to watch this movie at any point during a showing on TBS?
- Probably not.
- Would I buy it on sale at Target for $5 or less (or even splurge on it full price)?
- No and definitely no. Too bloody for repeat showings.
