Week 4 - Annie Hall

Judging people in the park on a date? Where do Lauren and I sign up?
I can finally date Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother, since I like Annie Hall.
$400 for a tiny apartment in New York with bad plumbing and bugs is too much - yes, this movie is definitely 35 years old.
YOUNG CHRISTOPHER WALKEN?!?!?!?! Equally as creepy as current Christopher Walken.
And YOUNG SHELLEY DUVALL pre-The Shining???
SPOILER ALERT: A romantic comedy where they main couple doesn't end up together? WHAT?

  • What made me choose this movie?
    • Classic romantic comedy - has always been on the list. And it just happened to be staring me in the face at the library.
  • Describe this movie in one word. JUST ONE.
    • Timeless. This movie could be set now with very few changes (I wonder what Woody Allen has to say about social media?)
  • Would I recommend it to a friend (or talk ad nauseum with my friends about it)?
    • Recommend - yes. Unless you don't like Woody Allen.
    • Talk ad nauseum?  Probably, but I'd need to watch it and talk through it with someone. It is too jumpy to remember everything I want to talk about.
  • Did I look anyone or anything up from the movie on IMDB or Wikipedia?
    • Not really - I was pretty set with this one.
  • If I was trapped on a desert island, which character from this movie would I want to be trapped with and why?
    • Alvy Singer. We'd have a lot to talk about. There's no one I can maintain dialogue with better than an educated, neurotic, sarcastic person (even better if they can also talk pop culture, but Tony and Rob don't have the other characteristics).
  • Did this movie provoke any outward emotional reactions? Crying, laughing out loud, throwing crap across the room, etc./et al. (Warning - I cry A LOT.)
    • Laughed. A lot. I even clapped my hands when Alvy was momentarily shown dressed as an Orthodox Jew at Easter dinner (this would have been a knee slap, but my knee was under my computer and a blanket).
  • Would I stop to watch this movie at any point during a showing on TBS?
    • Probably, yes. It jumps around so much that it would be easy to watch for the one liners while catching up on email, cleaning or organizing on a Saturday afternoon.
  • Would I buy it on sale at Target for $5 or less (or even splurge on it full price)?
    • Probably not, but (as you'll come to see in the remaining 48 weeks), I don't buy a lot of movies.
